SMT conversion

Converting SMT 4.5x4.5 switches to through hole

4.5x4.5mm switches are not easy to source. Most that I found are SMT and not through-hole type. With a pair of pliers I converted the SMT to be usable with the Feegle XS by bending the pins downwards.

I have flat nose pliers that are wide enough to bend all 4 pins at the same time. Needle nose also works, just one pair of pins at a time. Smooth jaws work better than serrated jaws.

They don't need to be perfectly straight, just bent downwards.

Before and after bending. You can also bend the pins by just pushing them against a hard surface.

Have to be careful soldering as the pins do not protrude through the bottom of the PCB. A side benefit is that there is no trimming needed to make the bottom as flat as possible afterwards. (To fit the bottom with 0.3mm thick washers as spacers.)
